Humperdinck : Hansel and Gretal overture (Arranged for Brass quintet)

Product Code : Humperdinck_01
This opera overture by Humperdinck who was suggested in his time as “the next Wagner” includes the well-known “Evening prayer” or “when at night I go to sleep” theme, and most arrangements of this piece contain only this. However, our arrangement is of the overture in its entirety.
Because of the orchestration this was one of our most challenging arrangements but we feel very satisfied with the end result.
Surprisingly, this is the only piece so far out of all our arrangements where every instrument in the ensemble at some stage plays exactly the same notes as they would have if they were playing in the original orchestral work.
As far as difficulty goes, this is playable by a good ensemble so we would class this as intermediate difficulty. The main requirement is stamina since there are so many sub themes throughout the piece and so much covering harmony that there is not a great deal of rest for each player. Tuba players will certainly not get bored by this piece (neither will the rest of the ensemble) since the bass line gets quite intricate in places. We really hope you enjoy playing this.

In most cases, this is the arrangment being played back using the Sibelius video export facility, but in some cases this is an actual performance by groups commissioned by Undiscovered Brass to actually perform the arrangment.
