Verdi : La Forza del Destino arranged for Brass Trio

La forza del which means the Power of Fate, is an Italian opera by Giuseppe Verdi. The libretto was written by Francesco Maria Piave based on a Spanish drama, Don Ãlvaro o la fuerza del sino (1835), by Ãngel de Saavedra, 3rd Duke of Rivas, with a scene adapted from Friedrich Schiller's Wallensteins Lager. It was first performed in the Bolshoi Kamenny Theatre of Saint Petersburg, Russia, on 10 November 1862 The Opera is set in 18th Century Spain, where Alvaro accidently kills his lover Leonoraâ€™s Father while they are trying to elope. Carlo, Leonoraâ€™s brother then threatens revenge on both Leonora and Alvaro! Leonora then hides in a convent, then goes into hiding in a cave. Later, Carlo meets Alvaro by accident during a military standoff, and wounds Alvaro. Alvaro then becomes a monk, but is tracked down by Carlo, and they challenge each other to a duel which happens to be close to the cave where Leonora is hiding. Leonora emerges from her hiding place to find Alvaro crying that he has fatally wounded Carlo! Leonora then tries to help her brother, but he stabs Leonora in his death throws, then in true Operatic tradition, the heroin Leonora dies in the arms of her lover Alvaro!
